what we do...

Bible Studies are the front line of SOBER. We bring bible studies into transitional living houses. These houses are 90 day recovery programs for men and women in transition from jail, prison or the streets. To be in compliance, the residents need to attend at least five meetings each week; AA, NA, or some type of recovery meeting. The bible study is offered as an option and is counted as a compliance meeting. This may be the first time many of these men and women hear the gospel in recovery terms.

Home groups are small groups within SOBER. Men and women of the church open their homes for others to come together to study the bible and to fellowship. This is an opportunity for discipleship and spiritual growth in knowledge of the word of God as we seek his purpose in our lives.

12-STEP MEETINGS are the workshops of SOBER. In these meetings, we come together to talk about how God is working in our lives. These meetings give the general public the chance to see God at work in recovery. This is also the place to look for a sponsor to guide us on our 12-step spiritual journey. As we grow in our relationship with Jesus, we grow in our sobriety. Jesus is our higher power and the Holy Spirit is our strength.

Mentoring relationships developed in our Men’s Group and Women’s Fellowship help us to develop the tools we need to discern and live out God’s purpose in our lives. We see how to live godly lives that honor our Father in heaven. When a positive lifestyle is modeled, it is easier to see how to become productive and respectable members of society.

Worship is a privilege we share at SOBER. We come together on Sunday morning to openly worship the creator of the universe. We sing, we praise and hear the word of God in ways the recovering addict can understand. At The SOBER Project we emphasize our personal relationship with Jesus, not religion. It is this relationship that gives us the strength to stay sober and to share Jesus with all.

Ministry is an active outreach of SOBER. We partner with TYLA, Inc. (Turn Your Life Around) and COPE Behavioral Services offering support for those in recovery. Our Food Pantry Ministry collects donations of non-perishable food and hygiene items for anyone in need. Our Praise and Worship Support Team and Children’s Ministry serve those attending our worship services. Your Prayer Requests are prayed for weekly. Our Men’s and Women’s Groups offer prayer, bible study and fellowship. SOBER hosts an annual Easter egg hunt for our community. We are also a source of emergency financial assistance.
