Don’t Come Easy

Psalm 63 (NLT)

1 O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for
you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. 2 I have seen you in your sanctuary and
gazed upon your power and glory. 3 Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you! 4 I will
praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. 5 You satisfy me more than the richest
feast. I will praise you with songs of joy. 6 I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the
night. 7 Because you are my helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings. 8 I cling to you; your
strong right hand holds me securely. 9 But those plotting to destroy me will come to ruin. They will go
down into the depths of the earth. 10 They will die by the sword and become the food of jackals. 11 But
the king will rejoice in God. All who swear to tell the truth will praise him, while liars will be silenced.

carry your own cross and follow me, you cannot be my disciple.

of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money
to finish it? 29 Otherwise, you might complete only the foundation before
running out of money, and then everyone would laugh at you. 30 They would
say, ‘There’s the person who started that building and couldn’t afford to finish

c. His

31“Or what king would go to war against another king without first sitting down
with his counselors to discuss whether his army of 10,000 could defeat the
20,000 soldiers marching against him? 32 And if he can’t, he will send a
delegation to discuss terms of peace while the enemy is still far away. 33 So
you cannot become my disciple without giving up everything you own.
34 “Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it
salty again? 35 Flavorless salt is good neither for the soil nor for the manure
pile. It is thrown away. Anyone with ears to hear should listen and
